Educational programmes for local communities
Veolia is committed to educating and raising environmental awareness of both its employees and the local communities.
The company has conducted various educational campaigns and activities related to water and the water & sewage industry for many years. Veolia also works with local authorities and community organisations to implement sustainable development projects.
Examples of Veolia’s educational activities:
“Water Academy. Because every drop counts.”
The “Water Academy. Because every drop counts” was an educational campaign for the citizens of three towns in Tarnowskie Góry district: Tarnowskie Góry, Miasteczko Śląskie and Woźniki. The campaign was conducted in 2022 in cooperation with UNEP/GRID-Warszawa.
The programme had three dimensions for specific target audiences:
natural science, geography, biology, chemistry and physics teachers, educators willing to include water knowledge in form tutor periods, civics lessons, art classes, etc. for pupils aged 12 and older.
Combining fun with gamification, the programme encouraged the pupils to broaden their environmental knowledge and develop pro-climate attitudes.
The programme was carried out in the historic silver mine in Tarnowskie Góry in cooperation with the Tarnowskie Góry Land Lovers' Association.
The “Water Academy. Because Every Drop Counts” campaign addressed the need for water and climate education for children, youth and adults, broadening the participants’ knowledge of the challenges related to managing water resources in the context of climate changes and the ways to counteract those changes. The campaign also supported positive changes in the urban space, improving the citizens’ quality of life and facilitating the adaptation of the town to the changing climate.
